Newgale is a popular spot for families, with its gently sloping sand allowing safe, gradual access into the waves, and plenty of room on the large sandy beach for everyone! At the southern end of Newgale are large areas of rockpools and caves – including a walk-through cave, and on to numerous sheltered bays. At the northern end it is possible to gain access to several low tide bays. At very low tide it’s possible to walk round to Cwm Mawr beach – but do keep an eye on the incoming sea!
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs along the beach and a walk up onto the cliffs at either end provides stunning views over St Bride’s Bay. The beach has won several Seaside Awards (Resort) and Blue Flag Beach Awards. There are car parks, toilets, cafés, gift shops and surf shops around the beach area and lifeguards are on duty June – September. Surfing and kiteboarding tuition and board hire is available from the shop.
Part of the beach is always dog-friendly, but dog restrictions apply to the middle third of the beach between the 1st May and 30th September.
If you’re staying in Newgale, don’t miss the charming harbour town of Solva, just to the North along the coast; or head South to Nolton Haven – where you can ride horses on the beach – and beyond to the picturesque Druidstone Haven.
