Perfect for beach games such as cricket and rounders, the view stretches miles into the distance towards the Gower. The back of the beach is lined with fabulous dunes called Pendine Burrows and if you don’t fancy cooking, The Coffee Shop serves a substantial breakfast, lunch or dinner. Dog-friendly holidays are possible here all year round as some of the beach always welcomes dogs, as do the nearby beaches of Marros, Amroth and Saundersfoot.
The world land speed record was broken here five times in the 1920s. Malcolm Campbell and J. G. Parry-Thomas vied for supremacy until Parry-Thomas’ final attempt ended in tragedy as he tried to beat 175 mph.  His car was left to rot in the sands but was excavated and fully restored in 1969 and is now housed in the local Pendine Museum of Speed.
Amy Johnson also took advantage of the long, firm expanse of sand to take off on her nonstop flight to the USA in 1933.
The Vintage Hot Rod Association organises a weekend of racing on the sands during the summer; it’s always worth a trip to watch!
You may also be lucky enough to see Carmarthenshire Land Sailing Club using the beach for wind traction activities, including land sailing, kite buggying and kite boarding.
At low tide it is possible to walk along the shore to Morfa Bychan, a small sandy beach which is generally safe for swimming – except near the cliffs.   At high tide you can get there via a bridleway from the village.
Important Note
Pendine beach and foreshore are owned by the MOD, so part of the beach is often used for firing practice. The prohibited area is cordoned off and marked with flags, cones and public safety sign. There is a calendar of forthcoming activity on the QinetiQ website but there is always a possibility of rescheduling due to operational requirements or weather conditions.Â
