The four acre lake at White House Mill is surrounded by unspoilt farmland in a peaceful and picturesque valley. The fishery is maintained to a very high standard with mown banks and native hardwood trees planted around the perimeter.
The lake is replenished by a spring-fed river via a settlement pond to maintain the high PH and good water clarity. As a result, a constant water level is maintained regardless of climatic conditions.
The depths vary from four to nineteen feet. However, as a result of the water conditions, there is good weed growth. The top five feet are kept cut, ensuring clear water for the fishermen and a good nursery for the considerable fly life.
Both Rainbow and Brown Trout are stocked from 1 to 5 pounds in weight, but many grown-on fish are present with large fish being recorded most months. Fishing is with floating line only, with single fly -maximum size 10.
To ensure a relaxed and pleasurable day’s fishing, the day tickets are limited to twelve at any time. Car parking is within fifty yards of the lake so under normal conditions access to the banks for the disabled presents no problems.
A fishing lodge is situated in the car park for anglers’ use. A separate building contains toilet facilities and a “brew-up” area with tea and coffee provided. There is also a picnic / barbecue area for sharing meals and fishermen’s tales!
As we tend to be busy throughout the year, it is requested that people wishing to fish should telephone and book in advance, price on application.
