The Pembrokeshire Candle Centre, Cilgwyn, was started 36 years ago and is now one of the prime visitor attractions in North Pembrokeshire.
In the workshop you can see hand-dipped candles being made without any mechanical aids. These beautiful candles are created with unique graded colours and exotic scents, including specially blended essential oils.
The workshop is a real ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ packed with candles of all shapes and sizes; most are made on the premises, and others are imported from all over the world. Most of the ceiling space is filled with hundreds of pairs of hand-dipped candles hanging from pegs on wooden beams.
In the gallery upstairs the high pitched roof space and wooden beams is used to display larger items, especially larger candelabras (some of them taking up to 12 candles) and floor-standing candle-holders along with candle-making kits, books about candle-making, and many exotic items from India, Turkey, Italy, Africa, Germany, France, and China.
Next to the workshop is Britain’s smallest museum with fascinating displays relating to the history and traditions of candle-making, right back to Roman times.
Visiting Pembrokeshire Candle Centre will also give you a chance to discover one of Pembrokeshire’s most beautiful secret valleys. The hamlet of Cilgwyn lies in a sheltered hollow at the entrance to Cwm Gwaun and beneath the rocky peak of Carn Ingli - right at the heart of Bluestone Country.
Cilgwyn Candles offers a wonderful range of beautiful candles from around the world – enjoy the timeless, magical ambience of candle light.
Open daily from Easter to the end of October, 11 am – 5pm. The rest of the year is restricted opening so please phone to check.
