Cardigan Castle, Green Street, Cardigan, Ceredigion
Luxury studio apartment in Cardigan Castle, Channel 4's Restoration of the Year. Wheelchair accessible. Restaurant on site. Complimentary access to Castle grounds and events. (1 bedrooms, 1 bathroom)
A tiny hideaway within the grounds of 12th century Cardigan Castle, the former Coach-house has been beautifully converted to an accessible luxury studio apartment with its own enclosed patio garden.
Overall winner of Channel 4/RICS Great British Buildings Restoration of the Year, Cardigan Castle (Castell Aberteifi) has a unique place in Welsh culture. It is believed to be the first stone castle ever built by a Welshman and, to celebrate its completion in 1176, Rhys ap Gruffydd (Lord Rhys) hosted a gathering of bards, musicians and performers: the first Eisteddfod. This was the start of the Welsh tradition of cultural festivals that continues today.
This is a special setting for a memorable holiday: lovebirds will adore the Castle’s rugged romance while lovers of history and tradition will relish soaking up the past from the ancient stone walls and discovering more about the Castle from the exhibitions.
Look forward to lazy mornings in the Castle grounds, to discovering the unspoilt beauty of Cardigan Bay and to dinner at ‘1176’, the Castle restaurant, or one of the many local eateries. Guarding the bridge between Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, the Castle is conveniently located for exploring both counties.
The Castle grounds are for the exclusive enjoyment of guests in the cottages and B&B accommodation outside the hours of 10 am and 4 pm except when evening events are held. All guests are invited to enjoy complimentary access to events such as outdoor theatre performances held at the Castle during their stay.
The Coach-house sleeps 2 in a king size bed (can be arranged as twin beds): it is an easy-access studio apartment with everything in one room, other than the separate shower room.
Main room: king size bed, 2 bedside cabinets with bedside lights, wardrobe, dressing table and mirror, TV and Bluetooth radio. Table and 2 chairs
Built-in basic kitchenette: microwave and hotplate, kettle, toaster, fridge, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. Please note that cooking facilities are basic, suitable for preparing hot snacks. There is no oven, so you might prefer to eat meals at nearby restaurants and cafés.
