The Barn

Drefach Felindre, Carmarthenshire

3

Spacious cottage just a short drive from Cardigan Bay with its spectacular coastline and Blue Flag beaches. Meet the birds of prey and relax in 7 acres of private gardens, rivers and woodland. (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms)

Our raptors are always a hit with guests. Meet the birds and be photographed with a hawk or buzzard. There’s lots to do at The Barn. Try flying a drone, tracking a hawk, panning for gold, fishing for trout, winning a treasure hunt or practising your golf swing (clubs and balls provided).

Bounded by trout streams, The Barn is tucked away in the village of Drefach Felindre, once the centre of the Welsh woollen industry. The National Wool Museum, visited by King Charles, is at the end of the drive as is the local park with climbing frames, swings and slides.

The village pub/restaurant is just a 5-minute walk, and there’s a chippie, shop and post office nearby too. The whole area is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, riders, fishermen and bird watchers. There’s canoeing at Llandysul and Cilgerran and plenty of clean sandy beaches nearby, boasting cliff walks, cafes and pubs. Within easy reach are the Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire National Park and the wild, ‘Dark Sky’ Llanllwni Mountain.

Outside

At the rear of The Barn, an orchard leads down to a stream. In the summer, youngsters have great fun paddling around and building dams. Early risers might see fox cubs playing in the grass, or pheasants on the lookout for breakfast. For a while, the fishpond was empty – an otter took the koi carp to feed her family and a heron visited regularly until seen off by one of our hawks. A raised patio overlooking the orchard catches the afternoon and evening sun. It’s a great place to enjoy a drink or barbecue as the day ends and the tawny owls and bats start the night shift. There is off road parking for 3 cars.
