Tower Hill Cottage is a stunning 18th century cottage situated in the heart of St Davids, the UK’s smallest city, and only 10 minutes walk from the Wales Coastal Path.

Tucked into the hillside just outside the ancient City walls, the cottage enjoys breathtaking views of the medieval Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and surrounding countryside, dominated by Carn Llidi.

St Davids’ shops, restaurants, pubs and arts and crafts galleries are only a short stroll away, and a few minutes’ drive takes you to Caerfai and Whitesands beaches, as well as St Davids’ nine-hole golf course.

The local area is favoured by walkers, cyclists, water sports and wildlife enthusiasts, artists and families alike. This is a fantastic base to discover the beauty of St Davids Peninsula and the wonderful Blue Flag beaches of Pembrokeshire.

OUTSIDE

Sliding doors from the sunroom lead out onto the secluded south-facing walled garden, which is a real sun trap. There is a patio with a teak table and six chairs for al fresco dining, and steps lead up through the colourful rockery to the upper terrace, which provides additional seating. The garden is planted with espaliered apple trees, fuchsia and other shrubs. There is a water feature and tiny pond, and a washing line (with pegs!) is also provided. Access to the house is via the narrow Tower Hill Lane, which makes it unsuitable for large 4x4s. Alternatively, there is free parking available on The Pebbles, less than 100 metres away. There is one parking space outside the front door.

Most guests arrive by car; however, there are regular train services to Haverfordwest, from where there are taxis and a regular bus service for the 30-minute journey to St David’s. The bus stop in St David’s (City Hall) is about five minutes walk (downhill!) from Tower Hill Cottage
While staying in St David’s, there is a great minibus shuttle service, which stops at key locations around the coast – ideal for walkers
There are major supermarkets in Haverfordwest (Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons) but you should find most of what you need in St David’s itself. There is a CK supermarket (open seven days a week), a delicatessen, butcher (also selling a limited selection of fish) and greengrocer.

Arrival

The narrow access lane from Goat Street is suitable for small/medium cars only, and there is a single parking place opposite the front door. Otherwise, there is free public parking on The Pebbles close by, with very short walk uphill to house
The house has external lighting at the front; public street lighting provides further illumination.
There are two steps up to front door, which is 75cms wide. There is no other access to the house.
The house keys are kept in a key safe beside the front door – the code and further instructions will be supplied on receipt of final rental payment

Inside

Ground floor facilities include a twin-bedded room, bathroom and utility room (one step down into the latter), but all the living space is upstairs.
Bathroom has a low-level WC. The bath has two grip handles and an electric shower over it
Staircase up to main floor is quite narrow – two flights of five and seven steps respectively. There are two further steps up to sitting room
The upstairs cloakroom is small – definitely not accessible for wheelchair or walking frame
All rooms are well lit – natural and artificial light.

Outside

Access to the totally enclosed walled garden is at first-floor level, via a sliding door in the sunroom extension. Raised threshold
Garden is multi-level, with stone steps (no handrail) leading between the various terraces. There is external lighting
There is a small ornamental pond; therefore, for safety reasons, we recommend no children under five
No telephone is provided, but wifi operates throughout the house
