Nant-y-Blodau Newydd

Pre-arrival:
We, Roger & Val have a beautiful, quirky cottage up the hill from the small town of Newport. The view across the valley of the Nevern river is stunning and when you have tired of gazing the footpaths from the cottage will lead you onto the mountain of Carn Ingli (the Hill of the Angel ). Or you can wander down the hill to enjoy the delightful town of Newport, the cafés, pubs and restaurants, the shops and galleries and the Monday morning market. A further walk (or car journey) will take you to the river, the estuary and the sea. The Parrog is busy in the Summer with boating activity of every description and Newport Sands is a safe bathing beach backed by sand dunes. The 18 hole golf course is here. Newport is served by a regular blue service between Haverfordwest and Cardigan. The nearest train stations are Fishguard/Goodwick, Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth. Taxis are available in all locations. The Poppit Rocket is the ideal transport for walkers to explore the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path calling in at all the main beaches. A reduced service runs in the Winter. Mobile phone reception depends on your provider. EE is the most reliable. We have a landline to be used in emergencies. We have an excellent internet connection with a Smart TV. Grocery deliveries are available from main suppliers and there is a variety of shops locally to supply all you needs including a Spar open from 8.00 am to 10.30 pm 365 days of the year.

Arrival and car parking

• There is a level gravel drive from the lane through a gate to a firm flat parking area immediately outside the cottage door. There is an outside light. Off road parking for two cars

Inside

• Sadly the cottage is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or small children
• The building was architect-designed in the 1970s
• The large living area/kitchen has rugs covering a wooden floor. It has an L-shaped sofa, two armchairs, occasional tables and a small table and chairs for breakfast. The wood burner keeps it warm and cosy in the winter aided by oil fired electric radiators. The Smart TV sits on a cupboard containing a variety of games
• The kitchen area is well equipped with a washing machine, fridge, electric kettle, toaster and Nutribullet and many devices for making coffee
• Down a few stairs there is a small carpeted double bedroom with wardrobes chest of drawers and a bedside table. Above this is a carpeted study with a single bed, desk, wardrobe and chest of drawers
• Over the kitchen area is a large carpeted second double bedroom excellent for sitting and relaxing. It opens onto the living area. Hard to explain but it works! All the stairs have handrails fitted
• Off the living area is a dining area with double doors onto the decking with yet more seating. The round table seats six with an elegant candelabra, red curtains and a rug covering the slate-tiled floor. This room is good for entertaining
• A fully modernised bathroom with shower and underfloor heating is to the left of the small entrance hall
• Over the years we have supported local artists and galleries so there is a range of pictures and ceramics in every room. The giant aloe will appreciate care and attention and water!

Outside

• The cottage is a home as well as a place to visit. It is semi-detached so although it is secluded it is not isolated
• Our garden is large and semi-wild. We are developing the meadow in the orchard; the bog garden is well established and even the willow circle is growing well
• There are lots of places to sit and contemplate the world, cook over a barbecue, eat under the sun shade or laze in the hammock
• The garden is dog-friendly, however, it is shared with the adjoining cottage.
