Immerse yourself in 900 years of history with a stay in Cardigan Castle: exclusive luxury self-catering in a dramatic setting with a unique place in Welsh culture. Gardener’s Cottage is a stylish romantic cottage for 2 in Cardigan Castle, lovingly restored to enchant those looking for a unique getaway.
Overall winner of Channel 4/RICS Great British Buildings Restoration of the Year, Cardigan Castle (Castell Aberteifi) is believed to be the first stone castle ever built by a Welshman. To celebrate its completion in 1176, Rhys ap Gruffydd (Lord Rhys) hosted a gathering of bards, musicians and performers: the first Eisteddfod. This was the start of the Welsh tradition of cultural festivals that continues today.
A special setting for a memorable holiday, honeymooners and lovebirds will adore the rugged romance of the Castle, lovers of history and tradition will relish soaking up the past from the ancient stone walls and discovering more about the Castle from the exhibitions. All guests are invited to explore the Castle grounds, sit in the Eisteddfod chair and enjoy complimentary access to events such as outdoor theatre performances held at the Castle during their stay.
Look forward to lazy mornings in the Castle grounds, perhaps with breakfast at ‘1176’, the Castle restaurant; to long days exploring the unspoilt beauty of Cardigan Bay, and to relaxed al fresco suppers after the Castle is closed to day visitors. Open between 10 am and 4 pm to visitors, the Castle grounds are for the exclusive enjoyment of guests in the cottages and B&B accommodation outside those hours, except when evening events are held.
