Efail Y Mwrthwl Mowr

Aberaeron, Ceredigion

Superbly positioned traditional cottage located in the picturesque town of Aberaeron, Ceredigion. Popular location perfectly located for exploring Ceredigion with its wonderful coastline and countryside. (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms)

“Efail Y Mwrthwl Mowr” (formerly a Smithy) is a traditional, characterful, stone-built Welsh Cottage that dates back to the 1800s and is located in the centre of the beautiful seaside town of Aberaeron.

It is a historical building, forming part of the old industrial area of Aberaeron and is the place where the famous “Aberaeron Shovel” was made using the iron produced by the “Mwrthwl Mowr” Machine (Great Hammer) located underground next to the cottage. This machine can now be seen at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea.

This cottage is unique and interesting and re-furbished to a high standard. Traditional Welsh tea and a historical talk by the owner is also available on request at £15.00 per head.

The cottage is located 200yds from the beautiful Aeron River walks and woodlands, and the Llanerchaeron walking/bike trail is about 900yds away. Take a stroll into town, walk along to the picturesque harbour, marvel at the beautiful pastel-coloured houses, and watch the world go by.

It is quiet and peaceful but very near to the local shops, pubs, restaurants and beach, everything is within walking distance.
