“2 weeks at this fantastic cottage has put springs back in our steps and provided an excellent rest. Jill and Vernon are top notch people, friendly, helpful and kind. From the cake on our first night to the last parting they could not do enough to make our stay welcoming and enjoyable. Jill - I'm looking up that Mary Berry recipe! As for the area - sublime. Sand, sea, castles , mountains and gardens - whatever you want, this area has it. Red kites soared overhead daily - if you go to a red kite feeding station you can see hundreds of them at one go! The cottage made our ideal base, whether investigating locally or travelling further afield. We highly recommend the Aberystwyth Butterfly House, Lanerchaeron. Aberaeron and driving across the hills to the wonderful Elan Valley. Thank you Jill and Vernon for a holiday to remember at 'our' cottage.”

“An enjoyable stay, in a cosy comfortable and clean cottage. A good base for exploring the West Wales coastline, or excursions into the Cambrian mountains. Owners were very pleasant and helpful, especially where good local advice is required.”

“We haven't long returned from a week's stay at the cottage.
The cottage is absolutely perfect for a couple looking for a nice quiet relaxing place to stay. At the same time isn't far away from civilisation. Aberystwyth is just 9 miles down the rd with coastal walks, restaurants, shops and pubs.
There are lots of lovely walks and places of interest around the cottage. And a lovely river within walking distance.
The cottage its self is very well equipped and comfortable.
Jill and Vernon are both very helpful, friendly, knowledgble hosts.
I would definitely recommend a stay at this cottage.”

“Arrived to a very excellent Victoria sponge, just the thing after a journey up from Dartmoor and it was lovely to have with a cup of tea after a days walking.
Well equipped and very comfortable. Lovely and quiet. Efficient wood-burner made the November evenings cosy.
Shower was brilliant after a days walking too.
An ideal spot for exploring some of the remotest parts of the Cambrians.”

“A beautiful romantic dog friendly little hideaway, in a wonderful area, surrounded by fantastic walks. Warm and cosy with a classy log burner. Hurrah, the first self catering with a set of sharp knives!!!! On our visit we had two very wet days but it did not mar our stay as there is a wonderful walk right behind the cottage sheltered by the forest. On our arrival we were greeted with a beautiful home made cake and crumble which was such a lovely welcome. Delicious and individual. We would highly recommend this little gem. Well done Gill and Vernon.”

“Lovely cottage in a gorgeous, peaceful setting; with everything you need for the stay.
It was wonderful to switch off from wifi/ tv/ phone for the week. It really helped me to wind down from a busy/ hectic year.
So much to do in the surrounding areas - I squeezed in lots of cycling. But a whole range of outdoor activities are on hand in the area and nearby Snowdonia.
Jill and Vernon were friendly hosts and they have made the cottage a comfortable home from home.
Thank you.
Emma”

“Lovely 'chocolate' box cottage. Despite the poor weather we had during our stay coming back to a log fire and an extremely comfortable sofa, after a day of walking around the best of what Wales has to offer, made it all the better!
Having no phone signal or tv signal meant that we made the most of our time away from modern life! Couldn't recommend this cottage enough! Everything you would need to have a relaxing enjoyable time is here!”

“A lovely cottage (tastefully renovated), with loads of good walks in the area. For an evening stroll after dinner, we recommend going over the bridge, left, past the saw mill, and a little further along at the parking area you can either go left along the river, or right for a loop through the forest.”

“Lovely cottage, lovely people, lovely place. This area is truly the most beautiful and could be called the undiscovered wonder of Wales.”

“In a pleasant and peaceful setting close to the Afon Ystwyth, the cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The location is convenient for a number of walks in the beautiful Ystwyth valley - including one that starts from the front door - and cycling trails including the Ystwyth trail.
The owners were friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay, and would certainly recommend the cottage.”

“I had the most peaceful stay at Dolau Afon during my week there. Vernon and Jill are the best hosts and the cottage was perfect. The views were magnificent and the night sky was really something. Would love to go back again as soon as I possibly could.”

Feedback - May 2017

“Dolau Afon is beautiful. It looks so tiny and cute outside, inside is like a tardis. Beautiful decor and everything you could possibly need. On arrival in tbe cottage was also greeted with a fabulous homemade cake. The owners are lovely and their two dogs are adorable and so friendly. The owners are very knowledgeable with regards to places to visit and things to do. Garden at back of cottage is very secure and leads onto their beautiful camping field and a gate to the stunning river for fishing. Would definitely recommend staying here. We will definitely return as was tremendous.”

“Absolutely lovely little cottage just what we required,no phone signal or tv Ariel so peaceful, fantastic location, contained everything you need for a pleasant stay, hosts jill &Vernon couldn't do enough, gave lots of info on surrounding area”

Feedback - Apr 2017

“Dolau Afon is brilliantly situated for walking, with enjoyable river and hill walks starting right out of the cottage door. The bird reserve at Ynys Hir is easily reached and the staff there will help bird watchers find species like choughs which are still scarce in the UK. All the walks from the cottage entail great views of red kites and the river is brilliant for dippers and the occasional goosander.
And, after a day on the hills or by the river, the cottage provides a really cosy, environment to relax with a meal and a glass of wine.”
