The parish church of Saint Ismael is below the village, hidden in a small valley near the Haven. In the Age of the Saints, it may have been the seat of the bishop of the cantref of Rhos.

The only way to get to St Ishmaels beach is to walk down a pretty coastal path, or you can also walk across some fields directly from the village. The walk is fairly easy although it may prove challenging for some visitors with impaired mobility and there is no disabled access. The beach is a little out of the way so can feel quite secluded. From the bay here you can look out over towards the Milford Haven Waterway and this is also part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Footpath.
