Colby Woodland Garden, South Pembrokeshire, is an 8 acre, National Trust garden set in a secluded valley with lots of lovely walks through meadows and woodland, leading down to the sandy beach at Amroth. The perfect woodland walk to the beach.
Apart from the gallery and shop, there is a tea room… so first things first, morning coffee in the courtyard before you set off! There is also a delicious selection of cakes to choose from.
Walk across the meadow and through a bamboo walkway, which is decorated with messages from visitors. If you want to participate, you can also leave a message for other visitors in the leaves. Looking through the messages lets you acknowledge everyone’s pleasure to be together in the peace of the garden with the sun on their faces.
Pembrokeshire had many small coal mines dotted about and there are several sites on the estate showing evidence of past mining activity.
As you come out of the woods, you will see the small fishing village of Amroth before you, the sea sparkling against the sand. After sitting and watching the waves and a little stop for ice cream you can head back along the paths to the walled garden.
