Rainy Day Activities

The rain doesn’t have to stop you from having fun when you’re on holiday in Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion or Carmarthenshire! There are plenty of fun rainy day activities for everyone to enjoy, so we’ve put together a list of places we think you’ll love, come rain or shine.

Head to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, Begelly, Pembrokeshire, only six miles away from Tenby. Almost half of the activities are undercover, so this makes a great day out in any weather. Head to the jolly barn, home to the cutest farm animals before hitting the vintage funfair where you can experience the thrills of yesteryear. There are game stalls where you can test your skills as well as places to grab a delicious meal or candy floss, Welsh fudge and popcorn if you’re after something sweet.

When the sun comes out (or you’ve brought your raincoat!) it’s time to see the rest of the animals. Luckily, most of the viewing areas are sheltered so the rain doesn’t have to spoil your fun- we’re sure meeting lions Hugo, Luna and their fully grown cubs will be worth it. Other animals we’re sure you can’t wait to meet are the giraffes, zebras, penguins and even the rhinos! Make sure to keep an eye out for Glyndwr- the adorable first rhino to be born in Wales, who was born at Folly Farm in January 2020.

Bring out your competitive side with a trip to Xcel Bowl in Carmarthen. Close to Carmarthen Leisure Centre, which is another great place to visit on a rainy day, it’s conveniently located near to the town centre. The 12 lane bowling alley provides a great couple of hours of fun for all ages.

If you’re bringing little ones, they can use the ramps for extra support and we’re sure they’ll love playing on the air hockey and other game machines too. For really little ones there is a jungle-themed play area, where they can burn off some energy. Once you’ve played, head to the restaurant where you can grab a tasty meal, ice cream or freshly made cake.

Another great place for a day out in any weather is Hangar 5, just outside Haverfordwest. Not only an impressive trampoline park, but you’ll also find soft play and a cafe here – meaning all members of the family can enjoy a trip. The cafe is open to non-bouncers, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy something fresh and tasty from the cafe in the mezzanine seating area while watching your little ones play. With a range of hot and cold drinks including slush and milkshakes as well as delicious food including light snacks, nachos, burgers and pizzas, we’re sure you’ll find something delicious on the menu. They pride themselves on serving freshly made, well-priced food.

With over 100 interconnected trampolines, Hangar 5 is a great place to have fun, get fit and practise your flips and tricks. You’ll find over 10,000 square feet of trampolines including angled walls, a dodgeball court and plenty more! Make sure to book your bounce online and fill out a waiver form before you get there.

Are you up for a challenge? Head to Ultimate Xscape in Aberystwyth where you can experience their two new escape rooms. You’ll get 60 minutes on the clock to try and escape from Diamond Heist or (if you’re feeling brave!) Jack the Ripper. Filled with immersive theming and plenty of technology, the games really come to life.

Use your skills to solve the cryptic clues, puzzles, riddles and crack the code so you can pull off the heist of the century or face getting caught and having to spend the rest of your life behind bars. Or piece together all the clues in Jack the Ripper and find out who is committing all the murders in Whitechapel before he comes for you too. Make sure to visit the on-site cafe to treat yourselves when (or if!) you escape.

If you’re up for testing your skills in a unique setting then Overhang Climbing Centre may be for you. Situated in the former St Davids Church, Carmarthen, this indoor climbing centre offers an experience like no other. There’s a range of sessions, so don’t worry if you’ve never climbed before. They even host adult climbing social nights where you can learn new skills as a beginner or jump onto the adult beginner course where you’ll learn how to rope climb. All the safety equipment is provided so just turn up in comfy clothes that don’t restrict you and have fun.

The minimum age to climb is six years old and you need to book in advance as it’s extremely popular. The beautiful setting inside the church really makes this a memorable day out for all!
