All aboard! Your Christmas grotto ride awaits. Here in West Wales, we have some fantastic railways that take you across the charming countryside.

Yet again, Santa will be in his Grotto on the Teifi Valley Railway, welcoming all the children with a gift. Festive refreshments will be available for all on return to the railway cafe. Charges are the same as last year: £8.50 children to include a quality gift; £5.50 for children under 3 (free for little ones who might be too young to receive a gift); £6.50 for adults.

Join Santa and his helpers for some festive fun at the Vale of Rheidol Railway this Christmas with Santa Special services departing from our station at Aberystwyth. Santa Specials are perfect for families with young children. A blast of the whistle and the hiss of steam and you’re away for a ride along the scenic Rheidol Valley.

Trains will depart our station at Aberystwyth and travel a short journey to Capel Bangor where we pause for a few minutes before returning to Aberystwyth.

During the journey, Santa and his elves will pass through the carriages meeting families, handing out presents and of course finding out what everybody would like for Christmas! What better way to start the festive season?

A wonderful Christmas treat this season as Santa returns to the Talyllyn Railway for his Santa Specials. His elves have been busy in their workshop, wrapping presents for all the children ready for the first train on the 22nd December. These Christmas trains will run twice a day from Tywyn Wharf to ‘Plas Nadolig’, through the beautiful scenery of unspoilt Snowdonia.

For the best experience, be sure to arrive beforehand to soak up the fabulous festive atmosphere. There will be no need to hurry as your seats will be reserved, allowing you to relax at Tywyn Wharf. After a heated train ride to the decorated idyllic ‘Plas Nadolig’, you will be met by Santa’s elves, and each child will receive an age-suitable present. Many people take the opportunity for the perfect seasonal photo with Santa himself. The Santa Special train will then take you back to Wharf station, where complimentary mulled wine and mince pies will be served to you in our King’s Licensed Café. Warm winter meals will also be on sale as the ideal remedy to the chills of December.
