“We have just returned, reluctantly, from our second visit to Alma House. The house is situated on a quiet lane that runs through a small village in a beautiful part of West Wales and, although peaceful and secluded, it is only a short distance from Cardigan, which boasts more than adequate facilities in terms of shops and cafes. The garden is wonderful - containing shady corners, an ancient former dwelling and a host of bustling birds and other wildlife. In addition to the garden the property includes natural woodland, a small stream and a field leading down to the banks of the Teifi - a modest stretch of which can be fished by residents. More ambitious angling horizons are accessible through local clubs. The house is well equipped and very spacious, particularly downstairs as there is a large living room as well as the kitchen diner and a wonderful sun room with direct access to the garden. There are many interesting places to visit, some locally and some meriting a day trip. The coastal path is great for those seeking energetic activity. On our last evening we drove out to Mwnt, and sat high above the tiny whitewashed chapel watching a spectacular sunset. Magical.”Feedback - Oct 2020
“A lovely peaceful tranquil place to stay yet still central to all the beautiful scenery and beaches in this area of Pembrokeshire.”Feedback - Sep 2020
“Super friendly host.Feedback - Sep 2020
Cottage was delightful and we would definitely return but hopefully on a longer stay , if not just to enjoy winding down around the cottage and it's gardens more.
As aforementioned by other reviews, the bird table in the garden is a hive of activity and if you like that sort of thing it is great sit and watch in the conservatory as there are many species that squabble over the offerings. There was a Buzzard in the tree in the garden one morning, and Red Kites pass overhead from time to time too.
Great part of the world, we have visited Wales quite a bit over the years but this was a slightly new location for us and wasn't disappointed even though the weather was a mixed bag during our stay.
The local Nags head won on food for overall quality, service and value. Even over the very nicely located Ferry Inn at At Dogmaels , which we would still recommend.
Thanks again for a great break.”
“Lovely cottage, very restful stay. I could happily stay for 2 weeks. Very clean.Feedback - Aug 2020
Charming garden. Perfect hideout to lose yourself in a good book.
Short drive to Cardigan and to Potty Sands beach.”
“Cottage is in a lovely peaceful location and with the right weather the garden is an absolute joy, particularly the bird life.”Feedback - Oct 2019
“We had a lovely, relaxing time in this cottage. It's in a beautiful place and we really enjoyed the walk to nearby Cenarth Falls. We had a delicious meal at The Nag's Head in the village and it was great to be able to walk home. Poppits Sands was a lovely sandy beach to take the children to - it was surprisingly quiet when we visited. All in all, it was a lovely holiday and we were sad to leave.”Feedback - Aug 2019
“We spent a magical week at Alma House in August 2019. The house is plenty big enough for 4 (2 adults and 2 kids 10/13) and offers most modern conveniences. It is comfortably furnished upstairs and downstairs.Feedback - Aug 2019
The real star of the property is outside. The gardens are spacious and interestingly laid out. There is an abundance of beautiful plants and plenty of interesting wildlife.
The real treat is to take a short stroll through a rolling sheep field, down to a truly stunning spot that offers the opportunity to paddle, fish and watch varied wildlife.
The only drawback is the constant hum from a nearby builders yard but this is soon tuned out and only lasts until 5pm every weekday. The house itself is sheltered and further away from the yard and so is very peaceful.
Beaches at Poppit (great for small kids) and Penbryn were beautiful. There is a very thorough info book at the house. The owner, Colin, was also very friendly when we communicated via email after our stay.
We cannot wait to return in 2020 to further explore the area and once again spend some blissful time at this beautiful place.”
“A most attractive property set in a wonderfully unspoilt part of the country. Peaceful and quiet, it does not feel remote, being on the edge of a village and on a lane that will take you to the towns of Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn in a short time. The garden is a delight comprising two levels, with seating, flowering shrubs, a hammock strung between fruit trees and an ancient barn - probably the original dwelling - with an intriguing, coracle-like chimney construction unique to this area of Wales. A host of birds and other wildlife are resident, or visit, and the bird table is a hive of activity. Across the lane there is woodland and a large meadow leading down to the river Teifi. The house is spacious and it has a welcoming and personal feel. Hot water was plentiful and the kitchen was well equipped. The conservatory at the back of the house looks out onto the garden and makes birdwatching a very comfortable activity. The sitting room has large sofas and a wood burning stove - a lovely place in which to relax when the nights are colder and evenings draw in - but we stayed in June and enjoyed a whole week of unbroken sunshine!”Feedback - Jun 2019
“Superb cottage, with the most amazing garden inhabited by so much wildlife!Feedback - Jun 2019
The owner took me fishing which was a real bonus, and provided information on the wildlife - great location and the village pub has great beer and food.
“Alma House is situated in the most peaceful village and surrounded by the most stunning countryside and waterways with absolute tranquility. Once you arrive you almost don't want to leave because it's so relaxing.Feedback - Jun 2019
The Nags Head is a local inn which is in reasonable walking distance - it is also in a beautiful location alongside a lovely river and the food was excellent.
The whole of Pembrokeshire is a truly magnificent place with an outstanding coastline. However, the price you have to pay for staying in a peaceful location is that you have to make considerable journeys to visit other locations.
I would just add that if you are interested in fly fishing in fast running, beautiful rivers with all amenities provided look no further because this is the place for you.”
“Lovely cottage, well equipped and very quiet. Super fishing on the Teifi. Try the Nag's Head at Abercych for an excellent pub meal and a good pint. We'll be back!”Feedback - Jun 2019
“Great couple of days away for fishing on the private stretch of the river Teifi, we even managed to bag a few decent brownies !!Feedback - Jun 2019

The cottage is very well equipped, thoughtfully furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable, it's like home from home, the gardens are so pretty with plenty of wildlife. With a stretch of the river to fish it's a perfect place to holiday. Would thoroughly recommend it and very much looking forward to visiting again.”

“Just spent a wonderful 5 days at Alma House. We were very impressed with the very clean, cosy, well equipped house and very pretty garden. We sat in the conservatory every morning watching a wide variety of birds including woodpeckers on the bird table nearby. The owners,Colin & Libby, supplied details of local walks, we did the one to Cenarth, and also places to eat,the local chippy is very good and we made several visits to The Ferry Inn at St Dogmaels with beautiful views over the estuary. A trip to Cardigan Island Farm Park is a must, providing great views of the bay from where we watched seals and dolphins. The highlight of our holiday was filming the puffins on Skomer,an absolute delight.Overall we couldn't have been happier with our holiday especially Alma House. Thanks again for letting us stay there. David & Norma Ashton. July 2016”Feedback - Jul 2016
“The cottage and fabulous garden made our holiday break, even the appalling weather did not dampen our spirits. The cottage had a lovely atmosphere and the conservatory with the fantastic array of cactus made a great reading room. The fishing was from a great spot and we would not hesitate to rebook, having now had four great holidays in Wales Alma Cottage comes out top>Feedback - Jun 2016
“The cottage was very homely. We particularly enjoyed the garden, which was lovely and ideal for enjoying a quiet read and a drink before dinner.”Feedback - Jun 2016
“This is like staying in someone's private residence rather than a typical sparsely facilitated holiday let. Spacious, inside and out. Tranquil garden.”Feedback - Jun 2016
“A great cottage in a fabulous location. Could not fault it.”Feedback - Sep 2015
“Our stay at Alma House was a delightful experience. The cottage was homely, spacious with plenty of segregated seating areas and warm with instant hot water. It was also tastefully decorative and clean. The gardens were a perfect compliment of the country-side surrounding it. There were beautiful wild birds in the garden and wild-life on the river near-by to watch. The fishing was pleasant and fish were caught. The cottage more than met our expectations and we would love to revisit the cottage for another holiday.”Feedback - Sep 2015
“Delightful stay at Alma House. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful secluded gardens and sitting in the sun room amongst your lovely potted plants. What a great location from which to explore Pembrokeshire- we had a wonderful week and fell in love with the coast line around Ceibwr Bay. We packed a lot into the week, from bike riding around St David's and down to the beach, paddle boarding, watching the sun set from Newport sands while throwing frisbee, our son enjoying quad bike riding and then the peace and tranquility of walks down by the river Teifi. Late evening fishing resulted in catching a beautiful 4 lb sewin- my son was over the moon.Feedback - Aug 2015
Thanks for such a memorable week. Debbie, Jim, Isaac and Amelia, Suffield, Connecticut, USA”

“Thank you Colin and Libby. We’ve had a lovely week here. Just what we needed......The weather has been Kind to us and I’ve been chasing butterflies in this beautiful garden (literally) trying to get a photo. I got one. Here is a little verse I was inspired to write:15th – 22nd May 2010
I really love your Alma House
So peaceful calm and still.
I love to watch the sheep and lambs
Grazing on the hill
I love the timeless garden
With its air of mystery
And all the birds and wildlife there
Are magical to me
I’ve not seen any fairies
But it’s easy to believe,
They’re there amongst the flowers and shrubs ”
“We have had the most wonderful stay. In essence the 5 of us have eaten and drunk to excess daily. We have created some magnificent feasts and found the kitchen table to be the centre of our universe! The cottage has been very well equipped and made our stay more than comfortable..........We look forward to return to Alma House in the future. The walks were fantastic and just this morning we have had the perfect dusting of snow. IDYLIC.”Mags, Chris and Jack. Chris and Becky. 21st December – 2nd January
“I’ll start by complementing the amazing garden and living room, I was truly impressed ”Lauren and family. 29th – 4th September 2009
“We had a lovely week in a part of Wales that was previously unknown to us. There is so much to do here, you can’t do it all in a week......Saw an otter on the Cych one night. Couple of visits to Mwnt cove with spectacular surf to jump in. Heritage canoes from Cilgerran very enjoyable too. A very comfortable and pleasant week. Thanks Colin and Libby.”Julian, Sybille, Elinor and Oliver and Laura. 15th – 21st August 2009
“Wonderful week away from the hurly burly.......Wildlife spotting a firm favourite especially in the garden- even a fox – and a kestrel was fought off by savage sparrows. A red kite was the cherry on the cake. Thanks Colin and Libby for letting us share the benefit of all your hard work.”Kim and Dave. 8th -15th August 2009
“A most enjoyable week....we had some success using black Flying Cs at the Sawmills stretch, including a 3lb sewin......a further fine fish of approx 6lbs was lost to a spinner earlier in the week”4th- 11th July 2009
“Yet another good week. The 9lb sewin was delicious Colin!! Caught lots of brownies. Loved fishing opposite the church by the Pensarnau Arms – idyllic. Best fishing for us was at Llechryd- saw lots of lampreys!. Win, the black sheep is my new found friend – just call “Win and he comes running for a stroke!! Mark and I decided to jog back from the Penrhiw Inn (Abercych) after a good session! Friendly locals!”Jill and Mark, Sylvia and Ken. 20th – 27th June 2009
“Had a wonderful time in your cottage which we found to be very well equipped spacious and homely. We really enjoyed the beautiful area both inland and on the coast. We tried the food in all the hostelries in Cenarth and all were very good, we also tried the Nags head in the village which was also good and all had good ales.....We will recommend your cottage to our friends and don’t be surprised if we enquire for another stay here. Thank you again”John and Margaret, John and Mary. 13th – 20th June 2009
“For the second time I’ve fallen for Colin’s “lies”. The fish have all got their mouths sewn up! On the positive side my casting has improved along with the speed which I can change my flies! Thanks Colin, delighted to stay here again and enjoy the varied wildlife. The elusive ”Blackheath” butterfly turned out to be Painted Ladies! To compensate the robins nesting in the cowshed the slow worm is a regular visitor to the sun room floor and I found a newly emerged Privet Hawk Moth. Angie. “Hope to see you next year”Angie and Alan. 31st May – 6th June 2009
“Many thanks. We have all really enjoyed staying at Alma House with it’s lovely garden and beautiful setting.
