Y Cartws is a self-catering converted barn, situated just twenty minutes from the coast, next to the twelfth century church of the small village, Llanwenog. Mostly built using the original stone, it is well insulated, with a slate roof and oil fired central heating. Y Cartws was awarded a 5* rating by 'Visit Wales' for 2010/2011. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a gallery sitting room. The surrounding trees and wild flowers help the local wildlife thrive, resulting in plenty of birdsong. This tranquil location provides an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area by bicycle or on foot. The property has a lockable outhouse for the storage of, golfing, walking, angling, other outdoor equipment and up to four bicycles. Stabling and grazing for 1 horse is also available. We welcome short notice, short term and long term bookings (up to a month).

There are many attractions nearby, including Oakwood leisure park, the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, museums, local natural history, Cambrian Mountains, Llanybydder mountains, and local cultural events. Local beaches are mostly under half an hour's drive. These include New Quay (where one can see dolphins and seals), Penbryn, Tresaith, Llangrannog, Cardigan, Aberystwyth and Aberaeron.

Y Cartws sleeps four in two bedrooms which are on the ground floor. A large double bedroom houses a super king size bed, wardrobe, antique chest of drawers, Digital TV, wooden floor with rugs and a Victorian style radiator, with views of the yard and church. Above the bed hangs an antique, hand-sewn Welsh quilt. The marbled floor shower room is en suite to the double bedroom. It has a heated towel rail, loo and spacious shower. The twin bedroom is situated near the bathroom and has two wooden beds, a chest of drawers with wooden floor, Digital TV and Victorian style radiator. The window has a pleasant view of the trees and yard. The Edwardian style black and white tiled bathroom has a bath with handheld shower attachment, loo, washbasin and heated towel rail.

The farmhouse style fitted kitchen has a slate floor and all modern conveniences, such as a ceramic hob, microwave oven and an oil fired range which heats the building and can also be used for cooking. The pine dining table seats six. Next to the range is a cosy leather sofa with reading lamps. The large French windows overlook the yard and church. The open staircase leads from the kitchen to the gallery sitting room which has an oak floor, two leather sofas, Digital TV, DVD player, video recorder and views of the church, woodland and valley beyond. The gallery window is an ideal place for surveying the beautiful landscape at sunset or sunrise.

To the rear of the property visitors have access to an area of private woodland. There is a spacious gravel parking area and a purpose built barbecue. In an outhouse there is a washing machine, tumble drier and a chest freezer with ample room for boots, waders, outdoor sports equipment (including badminton set and quoits) and deckchairs. Linen, towels, hot water and oil central heating are provided free of charge. Electricity is not included and the meter is read on arrival and departure. Most guests usually consume £10 - £15 per week. Also available, locally made celebration iced sponge cakes to order (at least 24 hours notice requried).
