Teifi River Guides
Flowing for more than seventy miles from it's source in the Cambrian Mountains to it's estuary at Cardigan, the Teifi, Queen of the Game Fishing Rivers, is both wild and beautiful. Shallow runs, thundering waterfalls and lazy dark pools, give the angler both variety and scenery few other rivers can match. In addition, the River Teifi is one of the top producing rivers for Salmon and Seatrout in the U.K.
The River Teifi is a spate river. The lower reaches, from Henllan and Bangor Teifi to the estuary, provides the angler with an opportunity to catch Salmon and Seatrout, fresh off the tide. It is on these beats that the Teifi River Guides spend the majority of their time and, having access to almost 30 miles of fishing and seeing ever changing levels of water flow throughout the season, they know just where the best places are to fish. With over 70 named pools contained in five separate Beats, they offer extremely good value for money. Permits can be obtained when you arrive.
Rivers like the Teifi hold good stocks of Seatrout, or Sewin. As a general rule, Sewin enter the system as early as April and May. These tend to be the bigger fish and at this time of the season you will rarely make contact with anything less than 4lb.
Wild Brown Trout in the lower reaches have declined over the years but by joining us for a Trout Trek day up river to the source of the Teifi and fishing the beautiful Teifi Pools, dropping downstream to fish the glides and streams of the upper reaches, you will experience some of the best wild trout fishing the Teifi Valley has to offer.
The majority of Grilse and Salmon are caught in late summer and autumn. The average Teifi Salmon weighs around 9lb. However fish of 20lb are not unusual.
Salt Water Fly fishing is a growing and most exciting aspect of our sport and in particular fishing for Bass and Mullet. The Teifi Estuary is an important nursery area for Bass as are other nearby coves and beaches. Because Bass are very slow growing, any small fish caught. less than 36cms should be returned to the water as soon as possible. In recent seasons fish 6-8lb have been caught! We start fishing for Bass when the estuary waters start to warm up, usually in June. We are happy to say that the Teifi estuary also attracts large shoals of Mullet in a good summer.
