The Welsh Retreat is a secluded rural space set in 24 acres of lush land. We are surrounded by fields with 6 acres of bluebell woodlands alongside the small River Bargoed. There are many special areas on our land for barbeques, bonfires, play and space to wander. Indoors, our large studio (32’ x 19’) is perfect for celebrations.
Here at the Welsh Retreat, you are within reach of rivers, mountains and beaches: 30 minutes drive takes you to the beautiful Cardigan Bay coast line with its safe sandy beaches at Poppit Sands, Tresaith, Penbryn and Llangrannog; for activities, try the superb Brechfa Forest mountain bike trails and woodland paths, canoe on the Towy River or wander the open moorland of the nearby Preseli Hills.
Accommodation
The Welsh Retreat sleeps up to 24 people in 3 buildings. The rental prices shown below are for groups of up to 16 occupying the Barn and Cottage. Additional guests may use overflow sleeping accommodation in the Bunkhouse on payment of £10 per person per night on arrival.
THE BARN sleeps 8 in four double bedrooms which can be arranged as twin rooms if preferred. Another 3 people can be accommodated on a sofa bed in one of the bedrooms and a single folding bed in another.
In the Barn, all the bedrooms and the luxurious bathroom and shower room are on the ground floor. Underfloor heating warms the floors with their inlays of pebbles and agate slices.
The first floor lounge, kitchen and dining room is a huge open plan space with natural light from three long windows in the roof, ideal for watching the night sky. The lounge area has a cosy wood burner with ample snug sofas around, satellite TV, DVD and a CD player. The kitchen area has contemporary functional units with stainless steel detailing, range style gas cooker and microwave. There is a generous handmade oak dinner table and a pleasant breakfast seating area so you can enjoy your coffee inside or out on the terrace.
Key facts for the Barn
• Bed linen supplied but please bring your own towels
• Heating and hot water is by solar panels and the wood burner, with a timed immersion for busy periods. It will be part of your eco friendly experience to light and stock the wood burner.
• First load of logs and coal is included in the price, usually enough for a week. Extra fuel is charged at an extra £40 / load consisting of logs, coal and kindling
• Electricity is by coin meter, filled with an average week’s supply before you arrive, you just pay if you use more
• No pets and no smoking
THE COTTAGE sleeps up to 5: 3 in two first floor bedrooms (one double, one single) and 2 more on a sofa bed in the lounge. There is a shower room on the first floor. Downstairs is an open plan kitchen/lounge with TV/DVD and a separate little garden room with table and chairs. The Cottage is a homely and self contained space with a charming rustic atmosphere.

THE BUNKHOUSE sleeps 8 in 2 bedrooms with 2 sets of bunk beds in each. This simple timber building has a communal room with tea/coffee making facilities (not a full kitchen) and a veranda overlooking the meadow. An adjoining shower block has three showers, basins and toilets.
