Bounded by trout streams, in the middle of 6 acres of garden, fields and woodland, The Barn offers spacious accommodation, a peaceful environment and grounds chock full of wildlife.
The Barn can be found in the village of Drefach Felindre. Once an important centre for the Welsh wool industry, the National Wool Museum is at the end of the drive.
The village pub/restaurant is just 5 minutes walk and there’s a chippie, shop and post office nearby too. The main house – Y Glyn - is next door to The Barn but doesn’t overlook it.
The whole area is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, riders, fishermen, golfers and bird watchers. There’s canoeing at Llandysul and Cilgerran and half a dozen sandy beaches within easy reach, boasting cliff walks, cafes and pubs.
Accommodation
Made cosy by oil fired central heating and double glazing The Barn sleeps 6 to 8 people (plus cot) in 3 first floor bedrooms with views over gardens and fields. There’s a twin, a double, and one huge room housing a double bed and twin beds with space to swing a giraffe. This room is equipped with a TV/DVD so you can park the kids upstairs while you relax.
Also on the first floor is a modern bathroom with bath, separate shower, washbasin and WC.
The galleried landing descends to a spacious living room with ample seating, a 32 inch TV, DVD, and a log burning fire – just right for slumping after a hard day at the beach or in the country.
In the kitchen there’s plenty of elbowroom around an 8 seat pine table. Appliances include an electric cooker and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster etc. Next to the kitchen a utility room houses the washing machine and tumble dryer.
Completing the accommodation is a ground floor shower room with electric shower, washbasin and WC.
Outside
At the rear of The Barn an orchard leads down to the river. Early risers may see fox cubs playing in the grass or pheasants on the lookout for breakfast. Sadly, the fishpond is now empty – an otter took the koi carp to feed her family and a heron snapped up what was left.
A raised patio overlooking the orchard catches the afternoon and evening sun. It’s a great place to enjoy a drink or barbecue as the day ends and the tawny owls and bats start the night shift.
