Penrhipyn Cottage is a delightful and tranquil retreat situated in the idyllic hamlet of Gwernogle, in the heart of the Cothi valley in Brechfa Forest,. Sleeping six people, this 19th century former blacksmith's shop, is built of river stone and is attractively furnished with many original features throughout including exposed oak beams and wooden flooring. The cottage is ideally situated as a base for those wanting to explore the footpaths and mountain bike trails of Brechfa Forest, the renowned Gorlech runs being only 3 miles away. The National Botanic Garden and Aberglasney House and Gardens are within easy reach. The excellent Community Shop in Brechfa is 3 miles away.
With a number of restaurants and pubs locally there are plenty of opportunities to sample the local produce including Welsh Black beef and lamb, cockles from Carmarthen Bay and salmon and sea trout from the Tywi River. In the vicinity there are many places to visit including castles, the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, Oakwood Theme Park and the Gwili Steam Railway. This is a perfect holiday spot for families or couples in the heart of picturesque West Wales. Penrhipyn Cottage was a finalist in the Carmarthenshire Tourist Awards 2009.
Accommodation
Penrhipyn Cottage sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms: one double and one twin on the first floor and one double on the ground floor. The open pine and oak stripped staircase leads to the two upstairs bedrooms and bathroom. The two bedrooms upstairs have wooden floors and distressed furniture with wonderful views across the valley. The upstairs bathroom has a shower, WC and washbasin. Downstairs, a charming downstairs bedroom leads off from the lounge and is well suited for those with limited mobility, although not suitable for wheelchairs. There is a second bathroom downstairs with a bath, WC and washbasin.
The beautifully furnished lounge has an exposed stone wall and wooden flooring. It is well equipped with Sky TV, DVD and video player and a fire place with an electric ‘woodburner’ style heater. There is also a CD player. The large, farmhouse kitchen features blue slate floors and traditional pine dining table and chairs and is fully equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. It has exposed oak beams with unique iron lighting crafted by a local blacksmith. New for this year: WiFi connection and music room with a piano which guests are welcome to play.
Outside
Outside is a beautiful landscaped garden with mature trees and shrubs and a charming hand crafted pergola. This is an ideal setting for relaxing and al fresco dining. Garden furniture is provided. There is private parking available for three cars leading to private access to the cottage. In this area there is also a building offering secure storage of mountain bikes with locks for 6 bikes as well as facilities for washing muddy bikes and storage for wet/muddy clothing.
