Only half a mile from Newport, Penfeidr Newydd is a beautifully restored stone mountain cottage in a superb secluded location directly beneath Carn Ingli (Mount of Angels) with stunning, spectacular views over the Nevern Estuary, Morfa Head and Newport Bay. It is a rustic retreat reached by a rugged track with spacious grounds where wildlife abounds. Just open a gate on your doorstep and step onto the heather clad slopes leading up to nearby Carn Cwn with its Wishing/Holy Well (tiny hollowed-out cups of water replenished by a mysterious spring source) and up the well trodden path through bluestone granite outcrops to Carn Ingli Common (peppered with stone circles, cairns and remnants of Iron age fortifications) then to the top to share the magnificent viewpoint from Carn Ingli itself.
A ten minute walk along a moss laden track and path walk down through Penrallt and College Square past the Norman Castle, St. Mary’s Church and “Hughes the Bakers” brings you into the charming village of Newport with its Spar grocers, “Paul the Butcher Shop”, Health food shop, a selection of fine gourmet restaurants, pubs with great food, and the Newport Art Collective. Walk the old “Burma Road” for a few minutes along the Nevern estuary to Parrog Beach and share the amenity of the Boat Club, a range of water sports, join the Coast Path along the quay wall or safely wade across the river at low tide to Newport Sands.
Penfeidr Newydd sleeps a maximum of 4 in three bedrooms: two double bedrooms and a children’s bunk bedroom on the first floor reached by an open tread staircase with handrail (take care please).
