Ol y Don is a traditional three bedroomed cottage (sleeps 6) which has recently been renovated and sympathetically modernized. It is situated in grounds of approximately two acres at the end of a small lane adjacent to the Nevern estuary and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Whilst it is in a secluded location, the Newport village shops are a mere 400 yards away.
Newport nestles besides Carningli mountain and is an ideal location for walkers exploring the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and National Park. Water sports and activities are popular within the confines of the large tidal estuary and a sheltered bay. There is a thriving sailing community based around the Parrog and Newport Boat Club. Birdlife is in abundance and fishing for mackerel, pollock and sea bass is popular both from the rocks and by boat, whilst the experts will go up river in search of trout, salmon and sea trout (sewin).
Whilst big surf in Newport bay is not an everyday feature, Whitesands, just outside St David's is well known for its regular large breakers. There is a choice of riding stables within easy reach of Newport, offering tuition and trekking. Trekking across the mountains is available for all ages whilst pub and beach rides can also be arranged.
Newport boasts a picturesque eighteen hole golf course and well maintained public tennis courts. Within an hours’ drive there are other golf courses in Cardigan, Haverforwest, St David’s and Tenby, whilst the famous Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is only an hour and half’s drive away.
Ol y Don sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms: one double and two twins. A “light house” style slate circular staircase leads to the first floor wooden floored bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom has a brass bed and views over the grounds and the estuary. The two twin rooms lead off one another. The traditional family bathroom is large and features a cast iron roll top bath with a hand shower attachment.
On the ground floor is a large open plan kitchen / dining room with a large gas fired red AGA at its heart. This provides warmth for the whole house as well as being the cooker. Equipment in the kitchen and adjoining utility area include a dishwasher, fridge, microwave, fridge freezer and washing machine. The main living room has two large leather sofas, a log burning stove and a 32 inch flat screen TV/DVD with Sky (Sports) and a BOSE iPod base station. There is another table and chairs in the living room and French windows lead out to the patio and garden. A second bathroom / wet room on the ground floor has a large shower.
You can enjoy sunny days on the timber decked and covered veranda or on the slate patio with BBQ and table and chairs.
Bed linen and towels (not beach towels) are provided. Wireless broadband is available. No smoking is permitted. Picnic crockery etc is not provided. A cot and high chair are available on request.
