The Hayloft cottage is part of the old farm courtyard at Plas y Wern. It faces west and out to sea.... a panoramic vista of Cardigan Bay for you to stand and gaze at. On a clear day you can see the outline of the Lleyn peninsula to the north, with Bardsey Island at its western point, and to the south the Aberporth peninsula. In late spring and all through the summer, the sun sets into the sea in front of the cottage. The skies are clear, the stars are bright, and the views amazing.
We try to support a diversity of flora and fauna through our management of our meadows and wetland habitats. Red kites and buzzards wheel across the sky. Badgers, foxes, rabbits, voles, owls and numerous small birds make it a nature lovers dream. Bring your binoculars as we have also watched the dolphins in the bay below from the comfort of the garden chair!
If you have not yet discovered this secretive stretch of coast there are 2 National Trust beaches Mwnt and Penbryn within 10 minutes drive, and 4 blue flag beaches, Llangrannog, New Quay, Tresaith and Aberporth all within a few minutes drive. Cardigan town has all amenities and locally produced food can be found in abundance. From fish and chips to locally caught crab, the cafes and restaurants offer a high class of cuisine. We have a highly recommended and award winning farm shop 'Llwynhelyg' down the road for delicacies and local groceries.
We would like to think that you will find our cottage a very special and relaxed place to stay, with all the comforts to make your holiday that little bit special. We care as much as you do that the small things matter!
Accommodation
The Hayloft (Y Beudy in Welsh) sleeps 4 (with room for a cot) in a downstairs bed room with 2 single beds (which can be configured as a super king) and up in the crog loft is a hand built king size bed, made with a comfy topper over the mattress. The pillows are soft and voluminous, and the cotton duvet and sheets from Bedeck and Sanderson. A curtain encloses the bed but leaves you the view of the stars from the Velux window.
Downstairs the large and open plan living area has an 'L' shaped sofa (made in Wales) and TV, DVD and free sat. The evening light has to be seen to be believed, as the sun sets the room glows with the light from the large double doors which open to your garden with views to the sea and the horizon beyond. The fully equipped kitchen has a washing machine, microwave, hob and oven. The bathroom has a full size bath with shower over, wash basin and toilet.
We can offer a welcome pack of local produce of your choice to await your arrival, or a home cooked meal (handy and convenient if you have travelled a distance). We make great homemade cakes and afternoon teas which can be ready for your return from the beach.
Outside
There is a private fenced garden with views over the fields to the sea. The patio has a table and chairs. There are two car parking spaces near to the cottage.
