Set in a peaceful, rural location in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains, Cefn Coch Barn (sleeps 4 plus 2 on a sofa bed) is one of two four-star semi-detached holiday cottages which are an ideal base for exploring this beautiful part of West Wales. Converted from an unused stone barn called Llechwedd Einion, the cottages now offer modern, luxury accommodation set in a spectacular hillside location about a mile above the hamlet of Glaspwll near Machynlleth, above the forgotten Llyfnant Valley. They are off the beaten track - there is no passing traffic (except the odd tractor and horses on the bridlepath) as the cottages are on a farm track which leads nowhere. When booked together, the Barn and the Cottage can sleep up to 10 people, great for reunions or family get-togethers.
The market town of Machynlleth (the Ancient Capital of Wales) is a short drive away, with the beaches at Aberdovey, Borth and Ynyslas also within easy reach. Also nearby are the RSPB reserve at Ynys Hir, the Centre for Alternative Technology, steam railways (Corris, Tallylyn, Rheidol Valley), nature reserves, King Arthur's Labyrinth, mountain biking trails and much more. This is a haven for bird watchers with an amazing variety of species to be seen from the doorstep. Walkers will be spoilt for choice with Glyndwr’s Way a few miles away, the Precipice Walk near Dolgellau plus many more. The Snowdonia National Park is within a short drive.
Cefn Coch Barn sleeps 4 in 2 double bedrooms with king-size beds (one of these rooms can be made up as a twin if you prefer, let the owner know which option you require once you have booked). Both bedrooms have French doors opening onto the front garden. The bathroom has a full-size bath with shower over bath, WC and basin.
There is a very large open plan kitchen/dining room/ sitting room. The new fully fitted kitchen has a dishwasher, washer/dryer, electric oven and hob, fridge and freezer, and microwave. French doors open from it onto the rear garden. The sitting room contains two sofas (one can be used as a small double bed at an extra charge of £50 per week - please advise after booking if this option is required), a wood-burning stove, FreeSat TV, DVD player (bring your own DVDs or rent them locally). It also has French doors leading onto the front garden.
Cefn Coch Barn is arranged over a single storey but with steps down from lane and parking area (for 2 cars). We regret that we cannot accept pets, and ask people to smoke only outside the property. Access is via a farm track which is steep and bumpy in places so take care if driving a low-slung car! Bed linen, bath mats and tea towels are provided but please bring your own towels. A basket of logs is provided for the wood burner and central heating is included in colder months. £10 worth of electricity is included, thereafter it is charged at cost by meter reading. A welcome tray is also provided with tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk, cake or biscuits. The Barn is awaiting Visit Wales grading.
Weekly rentals are from Friday after 4.00 pm to Friday before 10.00 am. Short break arrivals are by arrangement. A breakages deposit of £50.00 is payable on arrival and will be refunded before departure (less any breakages or electricity used above £10 per week).
Please note: children under the age of 8 must be supervised at all times due to the numerous streams near the property and the wood burner.
