A beautiful and characterful old house, enviably situated in its own elegant, secluded and private gardens, yet only 2 miles from the coastal village of Llanrhystud with its unspoilt Blue Flag beach of sand and rock pools on the heritage coastline. Pick up the coastal path here and you could walk to Pembrokeshire! The spectacular Cambrian Mountains are easily accessed from here, good news for walkers and cyclists, and super just for exploring and picnics. Our proximity to the outstanding beaches of Cardigan Bay provide opportunities for sailing, sea fishing, boat trips, and viewing dolphins from New Quay beach. Just 8 miles from the pretty harbour town of Aberaeron, famous for its brightly painted houses and honey ice cream. Close by is the National Trust house, Llanerchaeron, home to the Welsh National Eisteddfod in 2010. Aberystwyth lies 10 miles north and a narrow gauge mountain railway starts here, why not take a trip to the mountains via Devil’s Bridge?
Formerly a 14th century Manor house for a Welsh prince and poet, the house has been carefully restored to create a cosy yet smart interior. A sense of history is preserved by using décor sensitive to the original architecture of the house, such as the large inglenook with log fire, flag stone floor, beamed ceilings, and 17th century oak stair case, together with traditional furniture. Nestled in the verdant Mabws valley, and within a seventy acre farm, Bard’s Cottage is cocooned from the events and noise of everyday life by standing in an acre of beautiful mature gardens exclusively for the use of house guests.
Bard’s Cottage sleeps up to 8 in 4 spacious attractive bedrooms with large windows overlooking gardens and fields of lambs and horses. Two double bedrooms (one with a king size bed) and one twin bedroom are on the first floor. On the landing, an additional quiet reading area has a well stocked book case. The first floor bathroom has a bath and hand wash basin and there is also a separate WC and hand wash basin. Another twin bedroom is situated on the ground floor with easy access to the downstairs bathroom with its sit in bath and shower over. The sitting room has comfortable seating, a wood burner, flat screen TV/DVD player and French windows opening into a large garden.
A stunning farmhouse kitchen forms the heart of the house, its table comfortably seating eight. It has a 1940s Aga, fridge, toaster, microwave, dishwasher. A door leads out to the stone steps which lead to the top garden. A large boot/utility room provides storage for outdoor gear together with washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer. An external door leads out to the private courtyard, screened by a pretty garden, and with views of wonderful countryside, providing the perfect ambiance for a BBQ area, with large table and parasol. Adjacent lock up bike shed.
Local activities include horse riding, indoor swimming, bowling green, tennis, 18 and 9 hole golf course and river fishing. Activities at home include badminton and croquet on lawns provided, walking - a charming ancient carriage way, with bridge spanning the river Rosser, runs through the farm – and bird watching.
Little extras such as cotton sheets, free logs sourced from our own woodland, fresh cut flowers and a complimentary bottle of wine are automatically included. Comfort and warmth is ensured with double glazing and oil fired central heating. All electricity and fuel is included. Bed linen and towels provided, but not beach towels. Locally sourced food baskets may be ordered and delivered prior to your stay.
Price reductions are negotiable for short breaks and smaller parties, please call the owner to arrange this.
