Area E - The Carmarthenshire Coast
This coastline faces Carmarthen Bay cut by deep river estuaries with dramatic castles at Laugharne, Llansteffan and Kidwelly. The villages of Laugharne and Llansteffan are pretty, and Laugharne is known for its association with Dylan Thomas, who wrote Under Milk Wood in the Boat House above the waters, kept as he left it.
Pendine and Pembrey have particularly long sandy beaches. Pembrey once used for attempts on the land speed record now offers horseriding, cycling and walking as well as a dry ski slope. Between Pembrey and Loughor the Millennium Coastal Park has a level 18-mile landscaped cycling/walking track with views across to the Gower Peninsula. Near the Loughor end is the National Wetlands Centre Wales with abundant and varied bird-life on acres of lakes, ponds and reedbeds.
There are championship golf courses at Burry Port and Machynys Peninsula.
