Nestled in the heart of St Dogmaels, only a mile from Poppit Sands on the edge of the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, early 19th century Abbey Cottage has 3 bedrooms, comfortably sleeping 5. It features a large enclosed garden and splendid views of the Teifi estuary, out to Cardigan Island and the sea.
St Dogmaels is a thriving village with abbey ruins, café and visitor centre, working mill, art gallery, post office, convenience store, superb fish and chip shop, and three homely pubs. There is easy access to the start of the Pembrokeshire coastal path at nearby Poppit Sands, wonderful walking in the Preseli Hills, numerous beautiful local beaches, and activities to entertain young and old. The historic market town of Cardigan is 5 minutes away, and there is a wealth of nature, wildlife and Welsh heritage to discover in the surrounding countryside.
The cottage was reputedly built with stones from the ruined abbey on its doorstep. With many original features, it retains a cosy feel yet benefits from all the usual modern comforts including gas-fired central heating. The three bedrooms are comfortably furnished with one king sized on the top floor, and one twin and one single on the first floor. The first floor bathroom has a bath and electric shower. On the ground floor, the recently fitted kitchen has a double oven, 5 ring gas hob, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and in the utility room there is a washing machine and drying facilities for those wet sandy clothes. In the lounge the comfy sofas are perfect to curl up on with a cuppa, a welshcake and a good book. Alternatively watch your favourite DVD or TV programme - and on those chilly evenings, a real flame gas fire makes the room toasty in no time. The dining room has a hi-fi with CD player and turntable, and opens out onto the garden.
The huge garden has a table and chairs on the patio, and a bench to enjoy that marvellous view. You can pick your herbs for the pot from the herb patch, and apples from the trees. Parking for two cars is available on the road immediately in front of the cottage. Gas and electricity are included, as are bed linen and tea towels - but please bring your own towels and beach towels. A highchair is available. One pet can be accommodated at an extra charge of £30 per week. No smoking is allowed indoors.
Children of all ages will have the time of their lives here, while adults can ramble to their hearts’ content or simply slow down, kick back and enjoy a slower pace of life.
